Rosca de Reyes

Every year on the 6th of January in Mexico the Celebration of Dìa de Reyes begins, this is a tradition that dates back to the XIV century. This tradition makes a great excuse for a party in february as the tradition holds that who ever finds el Niño Dios (Baby Jesus) inside the Rosca de Reyes has to make tamales and throw a celebration on the 2nd of february, this is the day of the Virgen de Candelaria.

During the dia de Reyes in Mexico every family eats on an average of One Rosca per household, this means that around 4 million Roscas have to be made each year. Lucky for everyone we make several here at Jessys Tienda and Taqueria :).

This tradition would not be complete without gifts and a piñata as part of the tradition also includes kids writing a letter to Melchor, Gaspar y Baltazar the three wise man to bring them gifts on that day, this is a tradition worth keeping in the family and no matter where you are you can always expect a Rosca de Reyes to be present at the table on the 6th.

So if you have never had a Rosca de Reyes or if you are looking for one this year, come down to Jessys Tienda and Tequila Bar and pick one up!
