First time here and there were many pros and cons.The menu is very robust. The inside is quaint and looks very... authentic. The staff was friendly but our server was new, so our service was subpar. He was very nice and hustled, but forgot silverware, not very attentive, and had to come back re our order to get additional details.The other guests seemed to wait a bit as well, so the manager likely needs to hire more waitstaff.The tortilla chips are pretty thick, so be ready for that if you prefer thin chips. The salsa was very good with lots of flavor. Their fresh made guacamole was decent. We ordered it extra spicy which it was, but other than that was kind of bland. I’d say it needed lime juice, a pinch of salt, & some onions.Our entrees we good but we didn’t finish them because we filled up on chips and salsa. The rice that comes with the burrito almost seems like regular white rice, but that didn’t bother me. The fajitas were great as well as the burrito I ordered.I think I would give this place a second try just to try more of their food, but I certainly hope the service and guacamole would be better.read more

Service was terrible. Waitress gave us the wrong drink and tried to convince us that we were wrong, and wanted us to... describe how it should taste and walked away ignoring us, then still charged us. And the drink "Dirty Harry" wasn't even good.Our other friend also got the wrong drink. Waitress said that the drink wasn't on the menu, so they just gave us something. It was on the menu. And she said she would get the manager and never did.Waters didn't come until the meal came. They charged us for the chips. The food was ordinary. Nothing to be amazed about. Skip this place, there's plenty of other taco establishments in the area.read more

Upon entering we were seated quickly, however we sat for well over 7 minutes. Our server came with water and asked what... we would like to drink. We ordered our drinks and flan. The flan was great however I was not given a napkin. We waited for the remainder of our party and once they arrived we were still waiting for our server. I signaled for a server and a young man came to take our order and he was kind. Our food was delivered, however we have no flatware. I retrieved four sets of flatware and was give an ugly scowl by the female servers. I can say that the service was better prior to this visit according to the other 2 guests.read more

Came in yesterday to have some lunch. I got the enchiladas with sour cream and queso sauce and my boyfriend got the... supreme chimichangas. I will say that I really enjoyed my food. The tortillas were nice and crisp. The rice was delicious as well and I actually enjoyed the bite of the raw white onion used as garnish. But that’s about it. The happy hour margarita was pretty mediocre. They also don’t give out chips and salsa which was disappointing. Our server also seemed uninterested in returning to our table. They took down our order but three other people came in intervals to give us our refills, take additional orders and eventually present us with a check. The inbetweens were also rather long considering there were only two other tables during our visit. Ultimately the food was delicious, good for to go. The lack of chips is saddening but this isn’t a place you want to have a nice dining experience with friends. Just order to go and get outta dodge.read more

Had the worst restaurant experience of my life here. Go to Jessy’s on Shore Drive - do not waste your time at this... location.My friends and I arrived to have dinner on their back patio. As soon as we entered the patio, a large and rowdy group looked at us and said “Oh this isn’t a place for Christians, so you ladies better leave!” Which was so insane because none of us were wearing any Christian paraphernalia, no crosses, no print shirts that said “God”, we weren’t even wearing modest clothing 😂 - literally there was no reason why they would have thought we were Christians. It only got worse from that point on. This group screamed and cursed as the night went on. They were so loud that at some points we couldn’t hear ourselves talking to each other. We were trying to ignore them and enjoy our meals, but they kept yelling things at us, so eventually my friend turned around and told them to be quiet. That just made everything worse. Then they started screaming at us and threatening us. I went to the manager, which despite how I look, is literally something I never do. The manager seemed unconcerned by my complaint but said “I’ll look into it.” The manager came outside right behind me and STARTED GIVING EVERYONE IN THE GROUP A HUG. I cannot make this stuff up. I was shocked and disappointed and angry. We literally did nothing to these people. They were a huge group of young people in scrubs screaming at everyone on the patio, and for some reason decided they specifically hated me and my friends, and instead of the manager asking them to leave, she came out and gave them all hugs. I asked one of the quieter ones where they all worked and she looked embarrassed and refused to tell me the name of their workplace. Instead she said “It’s my last day and this is why.” I have never forgotten how horrible this experience was, and how disappointed I am in the management at this Jessy’s. If the manager had come to support us and diffuse the situation, maybe I would have tried again. Instead, I have told all my family and friends about this experience. I will never, EVER come back to this Jessy’s.read more

Ordered take out. It was ready when promised and easy getting in and out which is the only thing I like about this... place. I’ve eaten here twice and won’t again. First impressions.. didn't feel welcome at all. We had to ask if we could order. Took awhile before someone took our... orders and I had to ask for our drink orders after waiting at least 10 mins. I guess this was not the typical Mexican place that served chips and salsa, had to ask for that too. Didn't have silverware when we got our food (had to locate the server to ask). My second time here, with a good friend. After drinks and an appetizer, my friend noticed a roach on the table (not a... cockroach) I got up to notify the waitress who asked to see the roach... Roach was gone (🤷🏾‍♀️duh) then offered to move us to another table, uh no thanks. Let me go. She gave us our checks 2 drink(1 untouched), an app, and 2 entrees (1 barely touched). My friend pressed for a discount given the situation, we were offered 10% (the manager did not speak to us directly) I did not cause a scene, paid and left. The food was actually really good! But I was very unhappy with the way things were handled. I hope they sort out a pest control schedule that keeps bugs off the table.read more

The employee handling my order was very upbeat and pleasant to be around and I received my food order in a timely manner, plus luckily my husband and I liked our food (my hubby selected the Chimichanga Fajita (with chicken with oaxaca cheese rice and beans ) while I selected the fried shrimp tacos that came with corn tortillas.read more

Customer service is definitely trash! My first time visiting was through a online to go order around lunchtime. I... ordered chicken/steak fajitas. When I arrived and checked my order it was made with just chicken. I was told by one waiter that I could not receive chicken/steak at the lunch price. Usually this place is acceptable even though the service has never been "great". But the service this day was the... worse. After getting seated it took about 10 minutes for someone to even say hello. Once the server came over I gave him the list of appetizers I ended with a request for a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The waiter immediately got defensive and told me that I couldn't order that. I definitely pulled the "But I get it every time card" while smiling and thinking nothing of it. He got even more defensive and told me to calm down😂😂 Sir I don't know how calm you want me to be I didn't yell or have an attitude but I did leave. As expensive as they are it makes 0 sense for the customer service to be this so under par. Please do better Update: by your response it shows the lack of customer service starts at the top. Lets not forget your establishment has a history of treating "certain" members in the community differently. I have no reason to lie about the disgusting treatment by your staff. After a cold and rainy day on the Field Hockey field, Jessy's provided a welcome respite for our family. It could have... been a warmer inside.We were greeted promptly and with a smile. We sat down immediately. Waters, chips and salsa were on the table within 3 minutes. It would have been nice if the chips were warm or at least a bit more fresh. They were decent enough and hit the spot with the salsas provided. Careful though! You only get the first basket free.Our entrees came out within 15 minutes. The best experience I’ve had since I been back in Norfolk! The waitress was absolutely wonderful and sweet, the drinks... were delicious, the atmosphere was perfect not overbearing and not over crowded. Then the food omg! We were actually waiting to eat at "Lil bit Nola" but the wait was about an hour so they suggested we get drinks at... Jessys while we waited. We thought this was a great idea since it was super hot outside.We are seated pretty quickly and it's not very busy. We order margaritas and quickly notice we are sweating. Turns out the AC was broken. Ok fine, we can deal with that its just drinks.We finish a round of margaritas when my nephew freaks out and tells me he needs to take my 2 year old to the bathroom to wash his hands because he just touched a MOUSE!We were in a large booth right when you enter to the left. It's old and falling apart and there's a huge gap where your back rests. Went here for dinner with my friends on a weeknight. I wasn't taking part in it, but the happy hour specials for... margaritas was pretty good, and my friends enjoyed them. I had a seafood quesadilla and it was really good! Although a bit soggy from all the filling. The chips and salsa they put on the table are good, however I didn't like that if you wanted a refill on that, you had to pay for it. I've been to a bunch of Mexican restaurants and never been told that. Our waiter was good- he checked in on us often (but not too often) and provided good food suggestions!read more

Edit Feb 2021: There's no getting around the generally poor service here. Most of the staff just don't care. The... bartender, servers hanging out at the bar, and back of house wear no masks. When you call in they're rude. They got our take-out order wrong and -- far from apologizing -- were very short with my girlfriend. You really gamble when you come here. 4/5 times you have a bad experience.Edit: A great server can make all the difference in the world. Victoria really went above and beyond with awesome service tonight. She was friendly and helpful from start to finish. Give her a raise!Original: Inattentive service is the only real complaint about this otherwise stellar restaurant. The food is sublime; the kitchen is amazing. The ingredients they get to work with aren't always the best (for example the lobster tails are very low quality) but that doesn't stop them from turning out consistently incredible dishes. Everything looks and more importantly tastes wonderful. Their menudo is literally the best I've ever had in my life. Try a cup! The bowl is a more authentic experience and probably not a good choice for squeamish diners. The taste is phenomenal though. We always tip well so I hope that the service improves as we become regulars -- because we're coming back A LOT. 😁read more

I’m not the type to post reviews but I was just so disappointed at this place. Not sure what happened to this... restaurant but, we came in and stood in the front for 10 minutes+ while servers looked at us and kept walking past when it wasn’t even busy. I work customer service myself so this was really unexpected, especially for this establishment. At least have someone check in with people when they walk in. Won’t be returning here for a while.read more

The restaurant has down and upstairs seating. Decor was lovely. There were some issues. There was no toilet seat on... the toilet in the Women's restroom, so I had to use the Men's room. The "hot" water did not work on the faucet, just cold. The food wasn't super great. I've had tons better Mexican food at other restaurants. Plus no "white sauce". They weren't very busy for a rainy Saturday mid-afternoon, but we had a hard time getting consistent service. Their mixed drinks are good. Portions are comparable to price. I wouldn't recommend this place; however, nor go back. Sorry.read more

Went there for lunch today. Literally one other couple at a table in the entire place. A male employee brought me and... my wife water almost immediately, but that was all the service we had for at least ten minutes! When we were walking out, I commented to the server that the place was empty and we hadn’t even been asked for our drink order. She looked at me like she couldn’t have cared less. There were three small groups waiting to be seated, but they wouldn’t take our names. It was really odd, they wouldn’t even talk to us until we had a table. I literally stood there for 15 minutes before someone spoke to me. We would have left but we were meeting someone there. Finally someone took my name and I went to the bar to wait for a table and get a drink. We asked what the specials were because it was still happy hour, the bartender said “just the margaritas”, which we didn’t want. After finally getting a table we found out they had $0.99 Coronas for happy hour, but now it was too late. After sitting the service was slow, but not terrible. There’s other Mexican places in town I’d go to before coming back here, but the food was pretty good.read more
